Safe Harbor's IMPACT

Your Impact in 2019 through Safe Harbor's Programs and Services

When we measure the impact Safe Harbor has in the lives of women, children, and families, it is not in big numbers but life transformations. A distinction of Safe Harbor is that our recovery program serves up to 10 women at a time who live in community for one year before transitioning to independent living in our Greenleaf apartments.  Safe Harbor intentionally seeks to serve women who may be facing serious legal issues. We believe God can transform lives and do not believe any person is outside the reach of His love and grace.

Our staff keeps in touch with the 35 women who have successfully met all of the program requirements of the Whole Woman program, which was launched in 2009. We have asked them to evaluate 8 Life Domains defined as Recovery, Financial, Relationships, Legal, Employment, Spirituality, Leisure, and Physical.  When those numbers are tallied and averaged the women report a 77% improvement in these areas.

We measure our success not only in the lives of the women God has transformed but the lives of all those in their families.  One woman’s life impacts her parents, siblings, children, and friends.  Seeing mothers and children reunited is an impact worth celebrating!

Another key distinction of Safe Harbor is that we offer holistic care for those we serve. Participants receive counseling for their emotional needs, discipleship for their spiritual growth and physician’s care for their physical needs. Safe Harbor partners with approximately 11 other agencies in our community to offer the best care without duplication of services.

Each and every day, we hear how our mission has made a difference in the lives of many women in our community. The following testimonies are some of the positive things that our clients want to share with you about our mission. We are truly blessed to find that our mission is helping so many individuals to improve their lives and make an impact on their futures.

Our Whole Woman Graduates say:

“I truly do not believe I would be where I am today without going through Safe Harbor.”

“I am so grateful to the Lord for always loving me and through the years since SH. I have fallen and fell short but today I am grateful that he used these poor choices to make beauty from ashes today. I am almost 2 years clean, a wife, and have custody of my son.”

“Life has been difficult and exhausting at times, but I stay connected to healthy people that know how I’ve struggled so they can point out concerns in my life that I don’t see.”

“He’s training me right now to trust him more. I have a lot going on in my life (plus covid stuff) and all this has me feeling unsettled. He’s guiding me through it and helping me let go of control, so I can trust him and find peace.”

“God has placed me in a position to work in recovery, which helps keep me clean but also allows me the opportunity to share my own experiences and share Jesus with others.”

“I see God taking  care of me in every aspect of life. I may feel distant but I know God is near me at all times.”

“I have my daughter back full-time now. I see God daily in how I am able to be present in her life. I am also able to see God working in the way he helps me deal with life issues; work, Covid, parenting, financially. He is moving in all of these areas all of the time.”

“The New Day program has changed my life.  I have grown and have been more in tune with my self because of the structure. I’ve learned how to deal with different situations in life. I feel I have a closer walk with Jesus. I can function better in life with the tools I have gained and I am very thankful!”

“My name is Belinda, I began my journey in July 2014. I felt I had disappointed God. I needed to come home to Hickory, NC and start over. When I got here, I had no where to live. One Saturday night, I slept on the street. Sunday morning, I felt God’s leading to go to the square in downtown Hickory. When I arrived, a ministry was there talking about Safe Harbor.

When I came to Safe Harbor’s New Day, I began case management.  That’s when the windows of mercy started opening up. Thank God for Safe Harbor, New Day and the women there. They helped me realize that I still have a work for the Heavenly Father and that He is not finished with me yet! I now have my own apartment and the employees of Klingspor who heard about me through Safe Harbor helped me furnish it. Thanks be to God!”

– Belinda M.

“Safe Harbor is a very organized and Christian based ministry. Thank you Safe Harbor for the spiritual and loving ladies here!”

– T.G.

“Today I thank God for allowing me to see another day I thank Him for my strength and my health although I may not be where I wanna be but I am not where I used to be and it was only through His grace and His mercy and His love for me that I am here today. This is why I continue. Thank you God!”

– L.W.

“Safe Harbor’s New Day has helped me abundantly with doctors, appointments, taking me to CVCC, money management and counseling. It is just an all around blessing. I am very thankful to have Safe Harbor and it’s employees in my life.”

Stories from a few of Our Whole Woman Participants

“I started taking drugs when I was 12 years old, by 16 I was pregnant by a man who was 10 years older than me. I gave custody of my daughter to my sister, I lived in my car and eventually found myself in prison. That is where I first heard about Safe Harbor. Through Safe Harbor I have been able to live out God’s plan for my life. I am now involved in my daughter’s life, have a place of my own and work full time. I am also a full time student and will graduate soon with my degree in Peer support. My life is a miracle!”

– E.W., Safe Harbor Graduate and Employee

“Safe Harbor gave me hope and unconditional love and helped me to regain my dignity, respect, and self-confidence. I must give God the glory, because without him I am nothing!”

– L.A. Safe Harbor Graduate 2014

“I just want to say how grateful I am to Safe Harbor. They saved my life and gave it meaning. I’ll forever be in your debt. THANK YOU!”
